About Russia

  • Geography
    Russia is the largest country in the world, with a land area of over 17,000,000 square kilometres, occupying most of Eastern Europe and Northern Asia. It is the 9th most populated country, with a population slightly over 140 million. Bordering countries include Norway, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Belarus, Ukraine, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, China, Mongolia, and North Korea. Moscow, the largest city both by size and population, is the capital of Russia. This is where FIDexpo will be hosted.
  • Climate
    Due to the large size of the country, Russia has varying climate zones. Northern regions experience severe winters, while the south contains hot deserts. Moscow faces long cold winters, and warm humid summers. Temperature in May ranges from 8oC up to 18oC, with an average rainfall of 50mm.
  • Currency
    The Russian Ruble is the unit of currency. The exchange rate is valued around USD1 = RUB32.64 at the time of publishing.
  • Time Zone
    Russia spans 9 different time zones, with Moscow being 4 hours ahead of the Greenwich Mean Time (GMT).
  • Language
    Russian is the only official language, widely spoken throughout the nation. More than 100 other minority languages are used across the country.

    Russia is a multi-faith nation. Majority of the population are Orthodox Christians.

    Voltage is 220 volts, and the power socket is Type C.
